The late May bank holiday weekend is a time for normal folks to enjoy rest, relaxation, a trip to the beach, maybe seeing family… unless you are a wheeler – in which case you head to Ride London to take on the epic 100 mile closed roads route along with about 25,000 others.
This year saw a record 14 TWCC riders take on the event who despite the weather bogeyman’s attempts to spoil their day were determined to ‘just do it’. And we did. We live in Devon after all, and the bogeyman was wrong – again.
The ride starts on the embankment, heading east out of the city, passing through many charming Essex villages (much music cheering and refreshments) before winding back into the city with an exciting atmospheric finish on Tower Bridge. Folks, that finish line is something else. I nearly cried. My legs were screaming by this point as was my bottom but that’s another story. Was anyone else feeling the same way I wondered? Post finish rehydration was much enjoyed, followed by a visit to Dishoom (courtesy of Vicky – thank you, excellent choice).
A few memories from the weekend:
What exactly is inside Peters secret green pouch?
Did Julie ever find an avocado sandwich?
Does Claire ever clean her own bike?
Did Colin really smile all the way around?
What happened to Brian’s lamb starter?
Did my bottom ever recover?
Answers to the club sec please.
Thanks Claire Pitcher!
